New Roots

Updated: Mar 14, 2023

"And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord,

you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him,

and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth

you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."

~Colossians 2:6-7 NLT

Roots. Roots are essential to the growth, strength, and stamina of a tree or vine. The deeper the roots, the stronger the tree. "The primary root, or radicle, is the first organ to appear when a seed germinates. It grows downward into the soil, anchoring the seedling." (https://www.britannica.com/science/root-plant)

What a root, then, is to a plant, faith is to a believer.

When I first knew God, I mean really knew how real He is, and accepted him as my Father and Savior, a root began to grow downward. Following him, studying and applying His Word, praying, worshiping, and building my life upon His truths have all been vital into growing my faith roots. The more my faith has grown, the stronger I have become as a person of faith.

"Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God." Romans 4:20 NLT

A tree with strong, deep roots doesn't waver in its core during a storm. In fact, "Trees need wind to blow against them because it causes their root systems to grow deeper, which supports the tree as it grows taller." Trees grow stronger when the winds blow, and so does faith.

You've been alive long enough to have been in some storms. My prayer for you is that you never lose faith. No matter how strong or weak you feel in this moment, your faith is enough.

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:20 NLT

My second prayer for you is that you will find the nourishment and encouragement you need to fortify your faith through this website. God has promised to never leave you. You are loved dearly by a loving God. He will see you through the storms of life and there is glory waiting on the other side of the clouds. Use those roots as an anchor in the meantime hanging onto the Rock of your salvation and hope. Peace be with you.
