A Psalm 23:4-6 Prayer

Updated: Nov 11, 2023

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
~Psalm 23:4-6 ESV

O Lord, my Shepherd, there is evil all around me. This world is full of danger, and sometimes I feel the heaviness of the shadow of death looming overhead. But You, O God, have promised to always be with me. I am not alone. This shadow will not overtake me, and so I will fear no evil. For You, Jesus, have overcome the grave. You overshadowed death, and it cannot and will not have victory over me. Praise unto You, Lord Jesus!

Heavenly Father, even though it feels like there is so much opposition and obstacles on this path of life You've chosen for me, You go with me. You prepare a table before me right in front of those who oppose me. You show me You've got me by anointing my head with oil. You provide what I need regardless of what I face. You truly are a Good Shepherd. The love You have for me fills me to overflow. Help me, in return, to pour this love of Yours onto others around me.

Thank you, Lord, for going before me and preparing a way, for protecting me from evil, and for providing me with all that I need before I even ask. Thank you for comforting me with Your protective rod and assuring me in the direction I'm heading with Your staff. Surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me as I walk through this life. You have my heart. I am Yours, and I shall dwell with You forever. You are all that I need. Amen.
